UNESCO Asia-Pacific Regional Committee

In 1989, Korea ratified the Asia Pacific Regional Convention on Recognition. Since then, Korea has consistently and actively participated in regional committees, and hosted four sessions of the Regional Committee. Korea hosted the 4th (Sep. ‘97), 9th (May ‘07), 11th (May ‘12), and 15th (October '18) sessions. Moreover, KARIC has been actively participating in capability-building workshops and other expert meetings related to conventions.

In 2017, Korea ratified the revised convention, and hosted the first session of the regional committee for the revised convention on October 17-19, 2018, in Seoul. KARIC collaborated with the Korean Ministry of Education and UNESCO Bangkok to organize the sessions of the Regional Committee.

International Workshops

KARIC Capacity Building Workshop

KARIC Capacity Building WorkshopKARIC held the Second Capacity Building Workshop on May 17-18, 2018 in Seoul, Korea. UNESCO Bangkok, the Korean Ministry of Education, CIMEA and CICIC were invited to the event. The participants shared information on their respective higher education systems, and the experience of adopting the recognition convention into existing national laws and frameworks.

Korean NIC Capacity Building Workshop

Korean NIC Capacity Building Workshop The first Korean NIC Capacity Building Workshop was held in February 7-9, 2017, in Seoul, Korea. KCUE, UNESCO Bangkok, SEAMEO, NUFFIC and NOKUT participated in the workshop. The workshop aimed to gather opinions from foreign experts on the establishment and future operation of the Korean Higher Education Information Center. During the workshop, case studies of European NIC’s development and the details of the Korean Higher Education Information Center establishment were discussed.
