On July 19, 2024, the Korea Academic Information Center (KARIC, hereafter) of the Korean Council for University Education (KCUE, hereafter) held discussions with the representatives from the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE, hereafter) to strengthen cooperation in the recognition of higher education qualifications.
* CSCSE: A key organisation within China responsible for evaluating and accrediting degrees and qualifications awarded overseas
The meeting took place in the Conference Room, with Ms. Qin Lan (Director, Overseas Credentials Evaluation Service), Ms. Gao Siqi (Evaluation Specialist, Overseas Credentials Evaluation Service ), and Ms. Cao Chenxi (Evaluation Specialist, Overseas Credentials Evaluation Service ) representing CSCSE. Ms. Minah Park (Director, KARIC) and other staff members represented KARIC. Additionally, Ms. Cyla Kim ( Director, of the Educational Affairs Support Team, KCUE) attended the meeting with her team members.
Ms. Minah Park welcomed the CSCSE delegation to Korea and expressed hopes for constructive discussions to enhance mutual recognition of higher education qualifications between the two countries, and Ms. Qin Lan reciprocated. During the session, Ms. Minah Park and Ms. Qin Lan introduced the roles and responsibilities of their respective National Information Centers (NICs, hereafter).
Subsequently, KARIC presented on trends in Korea's flexible university education affairs system and quality assurance mechanisms of intensive course-taking system, flexible semester system, and distance learning, followed by an interactive Q&A session.
Both KARIC and CSCSE expressed intentions to establish a strategic and cooperative relationship in higher education qualification recognition through detailed discussions, aiming to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the NICs of both countries in the near future.
