Associate Degrees [전문학사, jʌnmunhaksa]

Access

Those who have graduated from high schools or recognized as having equivalent or higher academic background under the relevant statutes

Conferment of Degrees

  • Any person who has completed courses determined by school regulations at a junior college
  • Any person who has completed courses determined by school regulations in an associate degree course of a cyber college
  • Any person who has taken associate degree courses of a technical college and completed the courses determined by school regulations
  • A person who has completed a course for multi-functional technicians in a polytechnic college
  • A person who has earned at least 36 credits (2-year course) or 42 credits (3-year course) recognized by the Minister of Education

Term of Study

  • 2 years
  • 3 years : nursing, radiology, clinical pathology, physical therapy, prosthodontia, dental hygiene, occupational therapy, fishery, engine
  • The term of school years may be reduced for any person who has earned more credits than those required for acquiring a degree pursuant to school regulations, as prescribed by Presidential Decree

Bachelor's Degrees [학사, haksa]

Access

Those who have graduated from high schools or recognized as having equivalent or higher academic background under the relevant statutes.

Conferment of Degrees

  • Any person who has completed a bachelor’s degree program.
  • Any person who was admitted to an advanced major program in junior college and has completed the courses determined by school regulations
  • A person who has earned a certain number of credits recognized by the Minister of Education.

Term of Study

  • 4 years
  • 5 years: architecture
  • 6 years : medical colleges, colleges of oriental medicine, dental colleges, veterinary colleges, pharmacy colleges
  • The term of study may be shortened for a person who has earned credits equal to or more than those determined by school regulations

Master’s Degrees [석사, sʌksa]

Access

Those who hold a bachelor's degree or those who have been recognized as having equivalent or higher academic background under the relevant statutes.

Conferment of Degrees

Any person who intends to obtain a master's degree shall acquire the required credits, pass certain examinations and then present a thesis for a degree as determined by school regulations. Other methods may be applied as determined by school regulations.

Doctor’s Degrees [박사, baksa]

Access

Those who hold a master's degree or those who have been recognized as having equivalent or higher academic background under the relevant statutes

Conferment of Degrees

Any person who intends to obtain a doctor’s degree shall acquire required credits, pass certain examinations and then present a dissertation for a degree as determined by school regulations

Degree Types

General graduate schools shall confer academic degrees, and specialized graduate schools shall award technical degrees: specialized graduate schools may confer academic degrees as determined by school regulations, where deemed necessary considering the unique academic characteristics of specific fields.
